Mrs Sumner - Headteacher

Nicola Sumner worked in academic research for the University of Manchester before pursuing a career in education. She has held several teaching and leadership roles during her career. Nicola has an energy, passion and ambition to ensure that Mortimer St. John’s can be the best school it can be. Nicola has been involved in school to school support, successfully improving outcomes for children. For several years now Nicola has taken on the additional responsibility of being a School Improvement Advisor for primary schools in West Berkshire. Nicola has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Postgraduate Degree in Education.

Mrs Read - School Business Manager

Lorraine Read has been employed at Mortimer St John’s since 2007, prior to this Lorraine worked in the commercial property sector. Whilst working at Mortimer St. John’s Lorraine gained the Institute of Administrative Management Diploma in School Business Management, awarded by the National College of School Leadership. Lorraine has a wealth of experience in business planning, finance, personnel and premises management within the school environment.

Mrs Peters - Office Manager

Claire Peters began her career in the banking sector. Claire has developed the role of Office Manager, reflecting the increasing demands of school administration. Amongst her responsibilities Claire has developed the school website and has a well-deserved reputation for being friendly, approachable and always professional. Claire has been an integral part of the Mortimer St. John’s team for over ten years.

Mrs Rook - Deputy Headteacher

Gemma Rook has developed her teaching career at Mortimer St. John’s for over ten years, starting off as a Newly Qualified Teacher. Gemma’s passion for the arts is reflected in the external rewards the school has achieved in this area. Gemma is the lead for Special Educational Needs and has developed a wealth of knowledge in this area. Gemma has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with Art and a Postgraduate Degree in Education.
Mrs Montasari - Assistant Head

Mrs Montasari - Assistant Head

Anna Montasari has a Bachelor of Arts (History) and Education Honours Degree from Reading University. She has taught across Key Stage 1 and 2 and has held a range of teaching and leadership roles. Anna is eager to foster the children’s love of learning. She has a passion for sport and this is reflected in the links she has fostered and developed with a range of sporting organisations. She is a member of the Governing body, is the chair of Finance and is a member of the Curriculum committee. Anna is the leader of teaching and learning and has developed a depth of knowledge in this area.

Mrs Hutchings

Emily Hutchings has a BA Hons degree from the University of East Anglia and University of Redlands, California. She obtained her Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Exeter, specialising in Early Years. She has taught Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. With a background in music and dance, she is passionate about nurturing creativity in children.
Miss Hodgson

Miss Hodgson

Before Joining Mortimer St. John’s C of E Infant School Anneka worked for 5 years as a Deputy Manager of a nursery in Reading. In this role she created an inspiring and engaging environment for children aged 18 months to 5 years, following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Additionally, she ensured a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care and development for children in her care. Following this role she attended Brighton University for four years to study a BA (Hons) in Primary Education 3-7 years. Whilst studying at university she specialised in Art and Design as part of her degree. This remains one of her interests and passions in and out of school.
Miss Marsh

Miss Marsh

Virginia Marsh has been an active member of Mortimer St. John’s school since 2016. She graduated from Bangor University, with a BA Hons degree in Childhood Studies. As a result of this degree, she has had experience working with children in a variety of settings, including being an Early Years Manager for a summer camp and a Qualified Guiding leader. After completing the degree, Virginia worked as a Special Educational Needs one to one and Teaching Assistant in two primary schools. Finally, she went to Reading University to complete her Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

Mrs Pounder

Julia has a Bachelor of Science (with Hons) degree in Mathematics from Bangor University and an MSc in Medical Statistics from Southampton University. She began working in schools over 8 years ago, undertaking a range of training. Julia successfully obtained a Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification and most recently achieved Qualified Teacher Status. Julia\\’s passion for Maths supports the children in each step of their learning. This is counteracted with her love for Arts and Crafts.

Miss Bowskill

Before working at Mortimer St. Johns, Elizabeth taught Foundation Stage and KS1 at two schools in Slough. One of these was a Special Educational Needs school where she undertook her teacher training and successfully gained Qualified Teacher Status. Prior to working in Education, Elizabeth studied at the University of West London where she gained a BA Hons degree in Journalism and Media. Outside of school she enjoys travelling, reading and crafts.

Miss Green

Sophie Green has been working with children since 2014 and has recently completed her degree in Children’s Development and Learning. She has worked in another West Berkshire primary school prior to starting at Mortimer St. John’s and as of September, will be a trainee teacher at the school. She is very much looking forward to this exciting new journey and sharing her enthusiasm for learning.

Lauren started work at Mortimer St. John’s as a trainee teacher in September 2018. She completed her BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Surrey in 2015. Before working at Mortimer St. John’s she worked with children in the NHS. She is looking forward to her new adventure and sharing her passion for reading with the children.

Mrs Wallbanks - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Dawn Wallbanks has a wealth of skills and experience having worked at Mortimer St. John’s since 2002. Dawn reflects the growth mindset of the staff at Mortimer St. John’s by her continued love in developing her skills and professional knowledge. In 2008 Dawn qualified as an HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant). Dawn has maintained an interest in supporting our more vulnerable children and in 2013 Dawn gained her Certificate in the Theory and Practice in Nurture. More recently Dawn became a trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and regularly supports our children through challenging and tricky times.

Mrs Bale - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Debbie Bale has a Masters degree and worked as a qualified accountant up until 2003. She spent several years being at home with her children until she joined St. John\\’s in 2010. She has a Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification and enjoys teaching Religious Education to Year 1 and Year 2. Debbie has been able to have a significant impact on the reading of individual children through a Catch up Literacy programme. Being passionate about the environment she leads a committee of enthusiastic Eco Warrior Leaders, who are striving to take responsibility for helping to sustain our beautiful world.

Miss Ham - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Michelle joined the St. John’s team in 2014 and has worked across all age groups in the school. She has achieved a Level 3 in Early Years Childcare and Education and is a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant. Outside of school life, Michelle is an avid gym member, has her own crafting blog and enjoys walks with her dog.
Sarah has a Bachelor of Science (with Hons) degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Bristol.  Sarah spent 13 years in the USA, working in the field of mental health and clinical research. After returning to the UK and having had some time out to start a family, Sarah joined a local primary school as a Teaching Assistant, with the long term goal of retraining as an Educational Psychologist. Sarah is thrilled to be a member of the Mortimer St. John’s team and considers it a privilege to work with the children.

Miss Lewis - Teaching Assistant

Sarah has a Bachelor of Science (with Hons) degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Bristol. Mrs Roberts - Teaching Assistant

Zoe first joined Mortimer St. John’s in 2011 as a Learning Support Assistant and a Teaching Assistant. She left in 2014 to experience working in a larger primary school setting. Zoe returned to Mortimer St John’s as a Teaching Assistant in September 2018 and is excited to be back working as part of a team with familiar and friendly faces. Zoe thoroughly enjoys spending her time interacting and working with the children. Before taking a career break to have a family Zoe worked for Marks and Spencer’s and undertook jobs in various management roles.

Mrs Russell - Teaching Assistant and Lunchtime Carer

Chantelle Russell works at the school as a Teaching Assistant and Lunchtime Carer. She grew up in South Africa where she worked looking after children in a Preschool and as a Nanny for a family. Chantelle has worked in several different countries and has had several roles including being an Au Pair in Switzerland for almost 5 years. She enjoys interacting and working with the children at their level.

Mrs Audsley - Teaching Assistant

Tracy Audsley has been working at Mortimer St. John’s for two and a half years, first as a lunch time carer and then also as a teaching assistant. Before taking a career break to have children Tracy’s career has always involved working as part of a team to provide excellent customer services. She feel that the skills required then are the same needed to deliver excellence in a school setting just the customers are a little younger.

Nicky originally trained as a chef. In 2003 she began working in a Primary school as a lunchtime carer and 1:1 support assistant with a SEN child. In 2008 Nicky started working at Mortimer St. Mary’s as a 1:1 learning support assistant and class teaching assistant. In 2014 she started working at Mortimer St. John’s and has worked across all year groups. She has attended training courses including autism, occupational therapy training and advice, speech and language and positive behaviour management.

Mrs Jones - Teaching Assistant and Lunchtime Carer

With a career spanning over 30 years as a dental hygienist, Nikki is fun, fair and kind. Having made the decision to retire from dentistry, Nikki wanted to work with children. With a willingness to try something new, she began working at Mortimer St. John’s and St. Mary’s schools adding an NVQ2 Play leader qualification to her name shortly after. Along with her infectious laugh and sunny disposition she is a hit with the children. Outside of working, Nikki can be found rooting around charity shops for unique pieces of furniture to upcycle, getting involved with the reservations to a holiday property in sunny Devon and enjoying family time.

Anna has a BSc in Operations Management and after completing her degree she worked in Logistics for 10 years. Anna made the career change to work with children 2 years ago when her children started school. Anna joined Mortimer St. Johns in September 2018. Anna enjoys helping children to learn and seeing them overcome challenges and succeed.

Mrs Pearson - Lunchtime Supervisor

Liz has a long career working with children. She was a KS1 class teacher for 10 years after graduating from Durham University with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in 1995. Even after she left full time teaching to gain an honours degree in Product Design, she continued to work in nurseries around Berkshire. After a career break to have her 3 sons, Liz is loving returning to a school environment full of friendly children and adults. As well as her role at Mortimer St. John’s Liz is also pursuing a career as a wood turner. She’s a member of the ‘Made in Mortimer’ craft group and in what little spare time she has, enjoys singing and playing the ukulele.

Mrs Hewitt - Lunchtime Carer

Fleur Hewitt has been a Lunchtime carer for Foundation stage at Mortimer St. John’s school since 2010. Fleur is a Christian and runs, together with a team of six volunteers, the Mortimer St. John’s after school Bible Club. Fleur’s interests are singing in a local choir, baking and volunteering in the community.

Jane Butler works as a Lunchtime Carer. She is an outgoing, friendly and polite person. Jane enjoys caring for and working with all the children at Mortimer St. John’s. The children’s sense of fun and enjoyment make Jane smile.
Mel joined the lunchtime carer team in 2005. Prior to this when her first son attended school Mel helped with reading, sewing, cooking and crafts. As the mother of a son with Special Educational Needs (SEN)she has an in depth understanding and practical experience of helping and supporting children with SEN. Mel is a valued member of the lunchtime carer team.

Liubov Thorpe has worked at Mortimer St John’s since 2010 as a lunchtime carer. She has completed a wide range of training including safeguarding and first aid. Liubov enjoys working with the children and seeing how they develop their social skills. She is a valued member of the lunchtime carer team.

Since leaving school Rachel has enjoyed working with children of nursery school age. She has always wanted to work in a school and is really enjoying her role of lunchtime carer. Outside of work Rachel runs a Brownie unit and regularly helps out at with the village Guides. When she is not busy at work or looking after her Brownie unit Rachel loves spending family time with her daughter, they both love being outside and looking after the family pets.

Xin has been working at school since 2016 and really enjoys running the school catering and preparing, making and serving delicious meals to the children. Having previously ran a restaurant, she keeps the kitchen running smoothly. Xin finds the atmosphere at Mortimer St. John’s friendly and loves serving our wonderful children.

Rodie has been working at school since 2016 and really enjoys helping to prepare and serve delicious meals to the children. Before joining Mortimer St. John’s Rodie worked in a day care centre and also ran a small family business in Cyprus. In her spare time she has lots of fun completing different arts and crafts activies with her children.

Mr Ham - Caretaker's Assistant

Bryan was born in Mortimer and attended St. Mary’s School. After a career in engineering he has decided to take things a little easier and has recently become semi-retired. When he is not busy undertaking his duties at Mortimer St. John’s, Bryan loves having time to pursue his hobbies of woodworking and walking his dog.
